Tatterdemalion

The Secunda Project

    About the Tatterdemalion team

  • Chris Nelson (RottenDeadite)

I have over two decades of experience in designing and running pen & paper RPGs, modding experience in Skyrim, Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights, and more. I bring to the team a very deep knowledge of Obscure Lore and metaphysics, as well as a talent for building story line structures and general game design.

Professionally, I am quite proficient in LAMP-stack web development, somewhat proficient in Windows Server 2008 and Active Directory administration, and not completely clueless with Microsoft Dynamics.

  • Jessie Roy (Varanu)

I’m 24 years old, and a graduate student ecologist, and a teaching assistant for an undergraduate ecology lab course. After I finish writing my thesis in December I will be tragically unemployed, unless I can find a job in the next two months. Until then I can put in a minimum of 15 solid hours of work into this per week, ranging up to 30 on good weeks. I’m able to put together a very basic sort of quest and dungeon in the CK, but not much more than that yet. I also seem to be the official organization-type person for this shindig.

  • Chris Franzen (mojonation1487)

I’m 25, currently employed at a Steel manufacturing plant, specifically storage cages. I live in Chicago, IL (Central Timezone). I can commit a minimum 16 hours a week to the project. I have been working on level design and NPC creation. Also reading up on quest design and scripting but I have yet to take a stab at it in the Creation Kit.

  • Morgan Jones (Dovahkiin, numinit)

I'm Morgan Jones, a Computer Engineering student at Rice University. Networking and reverse engineering are my current areas of interest, although I've been very interested in graphics and cryptography recently as well.

I have contributed to multiple open-source projects, including the Ingress total conversion mod and the C0DA website. I enjoy running, solving puzzles, and playing location games like Ingress and Geocaching.

  • Alexander Payne (myrrlyn)

I am a 20-year-old Computer Engineering student with self-taught journeyman knowledge in HTML/CSS and JavaScript. With numinit’s help I’ve learned just enough to scrape by on git and UNIX terminals, and my only major technical production so far is the /r/teslore stylesheet. I’m extremely interested in the Orcs, and have a fair grasp of TES metaphysics and story writing, including spinning gold from straw when absolutely necessary.

  • Nils Forsström (thawks)

I’m a nineteen-year-old high school dropout from Sweden. I’m currently trying to do something about my situation and get a decent education. Exactly what the coming years will bring is very uncertain, but I’m hoping I’ll be able to put in as much work on the project as I’d like between obligatory real life interludes. I have no practical skills and am approaching this project completely blind, but I’m learning to use the CK as we go. I’ve also done a lot of writing which I’ve never showed off, but we might have to change that further down the line.

  • Justin Escovar Hellou

I’m 19 years old, I finished studies in what is the French equivalent for psychology in French (being from Quebec) in cegep, but am now currently studying towards pure sciences, not sure to what I’m working towards as an end result but I’m sure its in this direction. I am learning basic programming through websites, I believe I can do relatively good writing although thats for others to decide, I have basic understanding of photoshop having had a photography class a year ago and I plan on learning the CK as soon as I have the anthology.

  • Katherine Rimpau (solthas)

I am a twenty-year-old Chemical Engineering and Music student. I have a little programming experience in C and Matlab, and am a board game designer by hobby (passion). I am interested in logistics and gameplay, and will seek to learn CK and Papyrus at the very least. I know some music theory, musical acoustics, and will have a little background in programming for computer music as well. I mainly play clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, as well as some other instruments. I should be able to average around 10 hours per week, depending on the state of my relationship with my coursework.

  • Tim Chalupka (Sordak)

I’m twenty years old and currently a Chemistry student. While I have no experience in game design, I did write quite a bit in my life and have a great passion for the setting and this project in general. I do have some experience of the workings of localization for websites and projects in a big company and some minor experience in online marketing. Learning from the fence so to speak. Other than that it should be of note that my mother language is German and if this project should get translated into my mother tongue I would gladly assist in the process.

  • Austin Jones (XAYAH)

I am 16 years old, and I am currently in high school. I have no “official” experience in game design so far, but I have attempted various programming and writing projects alone in the past and am very eager to work on a project like this collaboratively. I’m relatively experienced in writing and analysis, and I have practical experience programming in HTML, PHP, Scala, Java and C#.

  • Claudine Berube (Laurelanthalasa)

I have lived in three of Canada's biggest cities, and spent 3 years in Japan after completing my undergraduate degree in Sociology. I am a highly organized, goal-oriented person that is a very quick learner and has an overactive imagination. I live in a condo full of books of every genre, all but the very newest having been read at least once by me, my husband or both. I love to draw as well, although my preferred artistic medium is the written word and always has been. I have had a life-long, on-again-off-again love affair with video games.

I first encountered The Elder Scrolls in Oblivion just before Skyrim was released and obtained it shortly afterwards. I had to stop gaming for a while and that is when I found reddit and the Lore. So I dug in and found a place with more people on my wavelength than I have found in a very long time.

When the opportunity arose to work on this project, I was very intrigued, and I am excited to see how my writing skills are applied here, and hopefully learn some of the development side of this endeavour.

Introduction to the Secunda Project

An overview of the project, including motivation, future plans, and ways to join

Overview and Goals

Tatterdemalion is a Skyrim mod that takes place almost entirely on the surface of Secunda, the smaller of the two moons that orbit Nirn. This mod will serve several purposes:

  1. To create a strange and unique new world.
  2. To illustrate the ease in which these concepts can be approached by players new to the series as well as their marketability and fan-base saturation.
  3. To introduce the Outer Realms to Skyrim players who may not be familiar with trans-mundial exploration.

Ultimately we hope to show how much fun the lunar setting can be, and to encourage Bethesda to consider this style of content in their next retail product.

Description and Current Plans

You, the Last Dragonborn, will travel to Secunda, where you will discover a new land of ancient terror, powerful and insane magick, political intrigue, and horrifying monsters.

The denizens of Secunda cling to their existence by tooth and nail, every moment of their lives is carved out of a hazardous environment never intended for mortal occupation. They are hard people, fighting a losing battle for their minds and their souls as the plane(t) itself seeks to trap them in unending agony. Will you help them? Exploit them? Or destroy them? But before you do any of those things, you must first learn to survive as well…

This mod will expand on lore established in the various editions of the Pocket Guide to the Empire and other pieces of “Obscure Lore” such as Tiber Septim’s Sword Meeting with Cyrus the Restless, Return False, C0DA and others.

However, since the lunar surface has so far remained under-described, the mod itself will likely create the majority of its own lore.

New content to look for:

  • An incredibly harsh landscape that defies all attempts at subjugation.
  • New, fascinating, complex NPCs.
  • Intricate branching quests with the Void Exploration and Colonization as their backdrop. Expect politics, murder, and conspiracies.
  • New organizations and reputations to develop.
  • Weapons and equipment to help the player survive on the lunar surface, and beneath it.
  • A half-dozen new horrifying creatures, with ferociously clever AI and unexpected and surprising abilities.
  • Lore-relevant in-game books and texts.
  • A whole world for us to Love you in.
